From March 31, 2024, air travel in the Schengen area will be easier!
As of March 31, 2024, Romania entered the Schengen area with air and sea borders, which means that systematic border controls of passengers making business trips by air to Schengen destinations have been eliminated.
No checks on identity documents
This means that after security checks, you will no longer have to present your identity document at the border police counter, but will go directly to the boarding gate assigned to your flight if your destination is in a Schengen country.
However, border police will be present in Romanian airports and will be able to carry out random checks to verify the identity of travelers. Therefore, even if the police will no longer check your identity papers before each flight, you must have a valid identity document with you.
Travel conditions for minors
If you are accompanied by minors, you must also have the necessary documents for them. Thus, if the minor is traveling accompanied by only one parent, they must have both a valid identity document and the consent of the other parent. If the minor is traveling accompanied by a third person (other than the parent), the consent of both parents is required in addition to the identity document.
