Waldorf Astoria New York: Back in the Limelight
Operated by Hilton since the 1970s, the Waldorf Astoria New York closed in 2017 for an extensive restoration process. Early this autumn, the hotel finally reopens its doors following one of the most spectacular transformations in the hospitality industry.
Starting September 1, the 4,000 square meters of conference and event spaces will also be available, including the Grand Ballroom, as well as the Basildon, Jade, and Astor rooms. Guests will also be able to enjoy the opening of the Guerlain Wellness Spa.
This icon of hospitality regains its original 1931 brilliance today and once again redefines global luxury standards, offering guests and residents an unparalleled experience right in the heart of Manhattan.
“Conrad Hilton thought the Waldorf Astoria was ‘The Greatest of Them All.’ And the reason that he loved Waldorf Astoria is because his belief was this is the hotel that defined luxury hotels, this was the most iconic hotel in the world,” stated Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton.
Transformation Through Design
The impressive transformation was coordinated by the renowned architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The hotel’s interiors were crafted by Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR), while the residential spaces and related amenities were designed by Jean-Louis Deniot. The new vision highlights the elegance of the original Art Deco architecture, harmoniously integrating contemporary furniture, state-of-the-art technologies, and premium finishes tailored to the demands of a new generation of travelers.
Rooms and Suites
After transforming from a 1,400-room hotel into a property that includes 375 hotel rooms and 372 residential spaces, the Waldorf Astoria New York offers some of the most spacious rooms and suites in Manhattan, with most exceeding 53 sqm. The contemporary design with a residential atmosphere, generous layouts, and ample bathrooms contributes to a comfortable and sophisticated experience.
Available in over 11 different categories, each accommodation space was designed to offer the comfort and privacy of a private apartment, featuring dedicated areas for relaxation, work, and rest. Natural leather, elegantly finished wood, and custom upholstery in a palette of neutral tones create a calm and refined ambiance.
The marble-finished bathrooms offer a spa-like experience, featuring separate toilets and dressing areas. Every detail—from the handcrafted leather to the custom-made lighting fixtures—reflects Art Deco craftsmanship and timeless quality.
Gastronomy
Reservations are also open for the three gastronomic experiences that define the hotel’s culinary art: the brasserie by Chef Michael Anthony – Lex Yard, the famous Peacock Alley, and the Japanese restaurant Yoshoku.
The Waldorf Astoria New York is located at 301 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022.
