Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi is the group’s new high-speed internet service powered by Starlink. It is available free of charge to Miles & More members and Travel ID users in every travel class. The first equipped aircraft is a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo, which made its inaugural flight with the service on August 19, 2026. By 2029, approximately 850 aircraft across the group’s airlines are scheduled to receive the same technology.
If your team regularly flies European or intercontinental routes with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, or Brussels Airlines, this service will change how employees can work during a business trip.
What High-Speed Internet on Board Actually Means
The system uses Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite technology. Lufthansa Group says the available bandwidth will, in many cases, exceed that of a home or office connection. In practical terms, passengers can stream video, work in the cloud, and use applications that require a fast connection while flying.
For a manager spending two and a half hours between Bucharest and Frankfurt, the difference goes beyond comfort. Rather than waiting until landing, they can open a shared file and collaborate with colleagues on the ground in real time.
Free in Every Class, with One Account
Access to Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi is free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users, whether they are flying Economy, Business, or First Class. Simply sign in with a Travel ID or Miles & More membership number to connect.
Three points are particularly relevant for companies with corporate travel policies:
- Multiple devices at once. You can connect your laptop and phone simultaneously.
- One sign-in across the group’s airlines. A single login gives you Wi-Fi access on equipped flights throughout the group.
- No additional charges. The service is sponsored by Mastercard, a Lufthansa Group partner that also supports FlyNet.
For departments managing travel budgets, eliminating onboard connection fees means fewer expenses to track and a clearer view of the total cost of each trip.
The Rollout: From One A320neo to 850 Aircraft
The first aircraft to offer Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi is Lufthansa Airbus A320neo D-AINM. The rest of the fleet will be equipped in stages.
Starlink is working with Lufthansa to install the technology on 850 aircraft across the group’s airlines. Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines are included. ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings are also preparing to introduce the technology. The announced completion target is 2029.
With this project, Lufthansa Group will become Europe’s largest airline group to equip its fleet with this type of high-speed internet.
What Lufthansa Group Leadership Said
Dieter Vranckx, Lufthansa Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the launch of Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi makes high-speed connectivity an essential part of the travel experience, available in every class and across the group’s airlines. He views the service as part of Lufthansa’s premium passenger experience.
The initiative is one component of the group’s investment in aircraft, products, and services intended to deliver an excellent travel experience to passengers regardless of which flight they choose.
Rules for Using the Service on Board
Alongside Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi, the group introduced rules for all passengers. Based on passenger surveys, they reflect the preferences expressed by most of its customers.
The rules are straightforward:
- Headphones are mandatory. Films and music may be enjoyed only with headphones.
- Keep communication text-based. Voice and video calls are not permitted on board.
- No live broadcasts. Streaming live content from the aircraft is prohibited.
For businesses whose employees travel for work, these rules belong in the pre-trip briefing. An executive planning a client call at 33,000 feet should know in advance that messaging is allowed, but speaking on the call is not.
Why Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi Matters to Your Corporate Travel Policy
Time spent flying on a business trip is often treated as downtime. With a reliable internet connection, an hour in the air can become an hour of productive work. Because access is free across all classes, the benefit is no longer tied to the travel class authorized under company policy.
Here’s what you can do now:
- Check whether frequent flyers have a Miles & More or Travel ID account. Without one, they cannot access Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi free of charge.
- Update your corporate travel policy with the usage rules, particularly the prohibition on voice and video calls during flights.
Monitor the Lufthansa fleet rollout, as the technology will be installed gradually.
